Russian claims treble
Russian Rhythm (in red) got up to win by a neck
Russian Rhythm won at Royal Ascot last time out
Russian Rhythm produced a gutsy performance to win the Vodafone Nassau Stakes at Goodwood and notch up her third Group One race in a row.

The three-year-old filly, racing two furlongs further than she had run before, just got up to beat the French-trained Ana Marie.

Winning trainer Sir Michael Stoute also took third place with Zee Zee Top.

Russian Rhythm, who was following up victories in the 1,000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, was sent off 4-5f but found herself stuck on the rails when Hi Dubai, chased by Ana Marie, hit the front three furlongs out.

Ana Marie took up the lead in the final furlong and looked set for a big upset but Fallon switched his mount into the centre of the track and gradually reeled Ana Marie in, getting up to win by a neck.

"She really dug deep. She showed she gets the trip but she wants livelier ground, she couldn't get a grip of it," Stoute told the BBC.

"We needed time to think about where we would go with her and we decided coming here would give us another option, although I don't know where she will go next," he added.

2 Fire Up The Band 7-2f
3 Colonel Cotton 16-1
4 Frizzante 25-1

"She has a really big heart," said jockey Kieren Fallon, who was winning his fifth race of the meeting.

"I was following a couple of horses on the rail, keeping to the fresh ground but they didn't really seem to be going anywhere. So I had to switch her wide on to the the worst ground.

"She couldn't get a hold and she wasn't liking it but when I asked her she really dug deep and found what I knew she would."

In the other big race of the day, Patavellian stormed home in impressive fashion in the Vodafone Stewards' Cup.

Helped by a favourable draw, Steve Drowne kept the five-year-old handy in the early stages and then drew away from the field at the two-furlong pole.

The battle for the places was a lot closer with Fire Up The Band taking second ahead of Colonel Cotton.

Frizzante did well to snatch fourth after being drawn on the less advantageous side of the track.

It was a bad result for the bookmakers in one of the biggest betting races of the year with the leading two in the market coming home first and second.

"He's done it very well. I thought he had the odd pound in hand but I didn't think he'd do it like that," winning jockey Steve Drowne told the BBC.
