Dettori goes clear on Dutch Gold
|
Frankie Dettori steered outsider Dutch Gold to an impressive victory in the Victor Chandler Chester Vase on Tuesday.
The 13-2 shot, trained by Clive Brittain, left his three rivals trailing at the Roodee.
It was Dettori's first win in the race, which is the highlight of the first day's action at the three-day meeting.
Dutch Gold, who led from start to finish, could now be aimed at the Epsom Derby although he would have to be supplemented at a cost of £90,000.
"He's very tough and strong and we'll have to see what happens but he's definitely a live contender," said Dettori.
Summerland (7-4) was six lengths back in second, with 11-8 favourite Risk Taker in third. Cruzspiel (11-2) came home last of the four runners.
Brittain was winning the Group Three contest for the second time having taken the race eight years ago with Luso.
Hopefully things are on the up again for us

John Ferguson, racing manager to owner Sheikh Marwan Al Maktoum, said Epsom was an option for the Chester winner.
"He's in the Italian Derby and it's possible he could go for both that race and
Epsom," said Ferguson.
"I need to need to talk it over with the owner to see if that is what we are
going to do."
