Street Cry retired to stud
Street Cry in action in Dubai
Street Cry was favourite for the Breeders' Cup Classic
Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry has been retired because of injury.

The four-year-old was a contender for America's horse of the year title but has had his career cut short because of an inflamed ankle.

The son of Machiavellian had been the favourite for the Grade One Breeders' Cup Classic at Arlington Park on 26 October.

He will now stand at Sheikh Mohammed's Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for the 2003 covering season.

Street Cry was trained by Saeed bin Suroor, who had no doubt about the horse's ability.

"I think he would have won the Breeders' Cup Classic," he said.

"It is very sad that the injury means he cannot run in that great race. It always seems to happen with the good ones.

"Street Cry was the best of the Godolphin horses this year.

"I think he will be a great sire as he is from a very good family and will prove popular with American breeders."

Street Cry was campaigned at the highest level and finished out of the first two on just one occasion.

That was when he was beaten by Macho Uno and top-class performer Point Given in the 2000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Street Cry will now join Cherokee Run, Holy Bull and Old Trieste at Jonabell.
