Racewatch: Shergar Cup
All the action from the Shergar Cup - the six-race contest between two teams representing Great Britain and Ireland and the Rest of the World. (All times BST)
Going: Soft, heavy in places
1625 - Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint 6f
1. Feet so Fast M J Kinane (GB&I) 6-4f 15 pts Mick Kinane and Feet so Fast give Great Britain and Ireland their sixth victory of the afternoon to secure the Shergar Cup. Kinane was well backed at 6-4 on the Willie Musson-trained horse who missed out on last week's Stewards Cup. But on slightly softer ground than last week, the duo relished the task, driving through the field with a furlong to go and running well clear for success.
1550 - Carvill Shergar Cup Challenge 1m 4f
1. King's Welcome R Hughes (GB&I) 7-2 15pts Richard Hughes claims his third win of the afternoon when King's Welcome triumphs comfortably. The 7-2 favourite takes up the running from Optimate with two furlongs to go. Miss Fara, ridden by Kieren Fallon finishes fast to finish second and Bollin Nellie claims double points for the Rest of the World side after team manager Michael Roberts opts to play the team joker But the Rest of the World need to finish in the first four places in the final race of the day if they are to overhaul the GB and Ireland team.
1515 - Millennium Hotels and Resorts Shergar Cup Stayers 2m
1. Mana d'Argent P Eddery (GB&I) 13-2 15pts Pat Eddery scores a first ever win for trainer Mark Johnston, guiding the 13-2 shot Mana d'Argent to a 15 length victory and extending Great Britain and Ireland's advantage. Kieren Fallon sets a fast pace on Jasmick in the opening stages of the race but his tactics play right into the hands of his teammate Eddery. Eddery takes up the running in the closing couple of furlongs and never looks back after that.
1435 - Porthault Shergar Cup Distaff 6f
1. Goldeva R Hughes (GB&I) 20-1 15pts Richard Hughes manages to claim his second winner of the afternoon after guiding Goldeva through the narrowest of gaps in the final furlong. Hughes brings his mount superbly between two Rest of the World horses and she keeps ahead in the final stages to triumph at 20-1. The much fancied duo of Vita Spericolata and Bright Edge finish second and third.
1405 - British Red Cross Shergar Cup Juvenile 7f
1. Tout Seul K Fallon (GB&I) 9-2f 15 pts Great Britain and Ireland captain Kieren Fallon leads by example, going from last to first to triumph on Tout Seul. Fallon starts slowly but moves to the stand side and eventually outpaces Devious Boy and David Flores. But despite the victory, the GB and Ireland only lead by six points after the Rest of the World take three of the four other places.
1330 - Moss Bros Shergar Cup Mile 1m
1. Bouncing Bowdler R Hughes (GB&I) 12-1 15pts The Mark Johnston-trained Bouncing Bowdler gives the Great Britain and Ireland team the best possible start with a narrow victory. Richard Hughes guides his mount into the lead early on and manages to hold on in a tight finish with Dumaran finishing very strongly behind. |
