Richard Quinn
Richard Quinn
Richard Quinn's calm manner and well-judged riding skills have secured him many supporters in racing.

The Scot is listed on racecards as T Quinn, from his first name Thomas, but is known by his middle name Richard.

He began what was to be a 17-year association with trainer Paul Cole in 1981.

Quinn was champion apprentice three years later, and gradually started clocking up the big-race winners.

DOB: 02.12.1961
Main trainer: Henry Cecil
Glorious Goodwood victories: 26

He won both the Irish St Leger (Ibn Bey) and Irish Oaks (Knight's Baroness) for top owner Prince Fahd Salman in 1990.

In the same year, he secured his first British Classic success, scoring on Snurge in the St Leger at Doncaster.

But the following season, Quinn was dramatically dropped by the Prince, who was unhappy with his ride on Generous in the 2,000 Guineas.

It turned out to be a triple blow - with the jockey missing out on the horse's victories in the Epsom Derby, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and the Irish Derby.

Quinn's partnership with Cole continued for another seven years when the jockey went freelance.

He was soon snapped up by top trainer Henry Cecil, and the partnership were on target at the Epsom Oaks in 2000 with Love Divine.

Quinn claimed his second English St Leger triumph at Doncaster in 2001, with victory on John Dunlop's Millenary.

Quinn's 26 winners at Glorious Goodwood include victory in last year's Goodwood Cup aboard Persian Punch.
