Mellow Park takes Oaks
Mellow Park may have earned herself a shot at the Irish Oaks with victory in the Group Three Lancashire Oaks at Haydock.

The Jeremy Noseda-trained filly had disappointed in the Vodafone Oaks when she could only manage sixth at Epsom but made amends when beating Lady's Secret by 1½ lengths at the Lancashire track.

And Mellow Park may now head for the Irish Classic at the Curragh with the St Leger later in the season also a possibility.

  Lancashire Oaks result
1 Mellow Park 13-8f
2 Lady's Secret 10-1
3 Shadow Dancing 7-4
6 ran
Distances 1½, 1¼

The filly had run away with the Lupe Stakes at Goodwood on only her second career start in May but had a harder time at Haydock.

Ridden by Darryll Holland, she still had three of her five rivals in front of her entering the final furlong of the mile-and-a-half trip.

But a gap appeared 150 yards out and she bravely challenged between horses, eventually pulling clear.

Oaks third Shadow Dancing was third again this time, another length and a quarter back, with front-running Jalousie fourth.

"She gave me a few heart-stopping moments looking for a run but I am delighted - I think she has run a little bit lazy and taken time to get going but once she got going she finished with a good run," said Noseda.

"I think she has still got a little bit to learn but she has got some talent and hopefully there are a few good days yet to come this year.

"We talked regarding possibly going to Ireland next week. We will see how the week goes and probably make a decision on Thursday whether we head there.

"If not we will have a think about the Geoffrey Freer and the Yorkshire Oaks.

"And she will be entered in the St Leger. It's always been my opinion that she will get a mile and six."
