Captain Barry Middleton was in good goalscoring form

England blew a two-goal lead to draw 4-4 with world number one side Germany, but they remain top of Pool A at the EuroHockey Nations Championships. Ashley Jackson gave England the perfect start, netting after four minutes. Germany then scored twice in quick succession either side of half-time before a brace from captain Barry Middleton gave England the lead again. Rob Moore scored a fourth on his 100th appearance, but two goals in the final 12 minutes gave Germany a point. "It was a great match - a superb advert for hockey," said England manager Peter Nicholson, whose side's next game is against Belgium on Wednesday. "We're obviously a bit disappointed not to see the game out, but it was actually still a good result for us."
