England captain Walsh helped set up the first goal
|
England scored three first-half goals as they opened their EuroHockey campaign with a 4-0 win over Russia. Helen Richardson netted the first after Kate Walsh's penalty corner drag flick rebounded into her path. Jo Ellis volleyed in the second with a clinical finish and one minute later Nicola White made sure of the win with after a goalmouth scramble. England dominated the second half in the Netherlands but only scored once through Sally Walton's strike. Coach Danny Kerry said: "It was good to get three points against a side that came here to defend. "I thought we were patient throughout the game, although we were slightly naive upfront and could have scored more goals than we did. "It was a great team performance though and one to build on this week." England take on group leaders the Netherlands in their second match in Amstelveen on Sunday.
