Ciara O'Brien
Injuries have forced Ciara O'Brien to quit Ireland duty

Ciara O'Brien has retired from international hockey with Ireland because of injury.

The 30-year-old defender, who won 156 caps over nine years, suffers from a degenerative, arthritic condition in both knees.

"I was determined to overcome my injuries and play a role at the upcoming Europeans," she said

"However, I had to consider the long term implications of continuing to train and compete at this level."
