England were well beaten by the time Clarke found the net

England's defensive weakness was again exposed in a 4-1 defeat by Australia in the second and final Test match. Having lost 5-4 on Wednesday, the hosts produced a more controlled display in the opening 25 minutes in Nottingham. But they were undone by yet another penalty corner as Chris Ciriello broke the deadlock on 26 minutes. Further goals from Glenn Turner, Glenn Simpson and Jamie Dwyer made it 4-0 before Jonty Clarke's late strike gave the hosts some scant consolation. In the last fortnight, England have conceded 25 goals in five matches, with 14 of those coming in three encounters against the Aussies, but coach Jason Lee was not too downhearted. "It was a tired performance," he admitted. "I think that reflects a hard 10 days and lots of internationals against the best teams in the world. "That tiredness meant our skill execution as very poor and some of our tactical decision-making was appalling. "Ironically, although we are disappointed, after that game we think we can stop making those mistakes and be competitive against Australia."
