Britain's Beth Tweddle missed out on winning a medal at the World Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne after coming fourth in Friday's all-round final.
Tweddle was third after scoring 9.512 on the uneven bars but she lost her balance three times on the beam and a poor score of 8.737 put her fourth.
She moved back into contention with a 9.525 floor routine only to be denied by Australian Monette Russo's 9.387.
Chellsoe Memmel took gold and her US compatriot Nastia Liukin the silver.
The other British gymnast in the final, debutant Shavahn Church, took 20th place.
"It is an inspiring success before the Commonwealth Games in March and in view of the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games," said British Gymnastics president Brian Stocks.
Tweddle will now hope to capture a medal in Saturday's asymmetric bars final and Sunday's floor final.
