Nicola Wilson wants top-ten finish at Bramham Trials

Nicola Wilson
Wilson is hoping to be selected for the Olympic team

Great Britain international Nicola Wilson is hoping for a top-ten finish at this year's Bramham International Horse Trials.

Wilson, from Northallerton, has entered with Bee Diplomatic, who she rode at the event for the first time last year.

She told BBC Radio York: "He was tenth here last year when he came here to do his first three star event.

"He is feeling in great form and hopefully he will enjoy the cross-country course."

She added: "Bramham is a three star event and a stepping stone to the four star competitions.

"The cross-country course is always very difficult and demanding and I think if the horses were to go well here then the selectors would certainly have their eyes on you."

We will see what happens through the week but I'm hoping he (Bee Diplomatic) will go well

She added: "This is part of the qualification for the Olympics. It's quite a prestigious event and the course is difficult. If the horses were to go well as a combination we'd certainly be in with a chance."

Bee Diplomatic is the half-brother to Wilson's top horse, Opposition Buzz, who she rode last year.

And Wilson admitted she would like to have both horses to choose from for upcoming events.

"It would be lovely to think Opposition Buzz would be involved in the Europeans later on this year and also the Olympics next year. But it would be fantastic to have a second string of a qualified horse with Bee Diplomatic.

"He's in good form. He's going well on the flat and would find the dressage easier than Opposition Buzz. He also enjoys the cross-country but he does find the show jumping a little more difficult.

"We will see what happens through the week but I'm hoping he will go well."

The Bramham International Horse Trials are being held between 2 - 5 June.
