Roberts clinches tenth gold

British swimmer Dave Roberts broke the world record in his 400m freestyle final to win his third gold of the Games and 10th Paralympic title.

The 28-year-old Welshman's time of four minutes, 52.35 seconds, beat America's Lantz Lamback by four seconds.

He told BBC Sport: "It wasn't a great swim, I wanted to go seven seconds quicker, but it's a gold medal."

South Africa's Natalie du Toit won her 200m individual medley event by 10 seconds for a third gold at the Games.

Du Toit lowered her own world record to 2:27.83 to underline her supremacy as Canada's Stephanie Dixon picked up silver.

But Claire Cashmore missed out on a medal, finishing two seconds further back in fourth.

The 22-year-old, who won 100m backstroke gold on Wednesday, said: "I knew I was going into the final fourth fastest and I would have to fight for a medal and I found something deep inside to win that medal.

"I've now got a collection of gold, silver and bronze from three races, so I am happy."

Australia's Peter Leek won the corresponding men's race, breaking his own world record by five seconds.

And Sam Hynd, who reached the final as the second fastest qualifier, won a third British bronze after being edged out of the silver medal position by 0.20 seconds by China's Jiachao Wang.

The 17-year-old said: "It was a good swim from Wang and I thought I would pip him at the line.

"It is my first medal and I get to go on the podium before my main event on Friday."

Robert Welbourn finished seventh in the final of the men's 200m individual medley (SM10).
