Paralympics day one preview

PARALYMPICS DAY ONE: Watch live from 0955-1300 on the BBC Red Button and 1325-1530 on BBC TWO and on the BBC Disability Sport website (UK users only).

Kenny won a second Paralympic gold in the men's 1km in Athens

British cyclists Darren Kenny, Aileen McGlynn and Ellen Hunter aim to defend their titles when the track racing gets going on the first day of the Games.

World record holder Kenny goes in the individual pursuit from 0230 BST while McGlynn and Hunter are in the women's 1km time trial (B&VI 1-3) at 0755 BST.

In the pool, Jim Anderson swims in the 200m freestyle at 0207 BST, while South African Natalie du Toit also stars.

There are 27 golds up for grabs on the opening day of the Paralympic Games.

Britons Ben Quilter and Darren Harris have byes in round one as they go for judo gold.

The duo compete in the -60kg and -66kg weight divisions respectively and their competition starts at 0500 BST.

Back in the pool, Japan's Mayumi Narita, who won seven golds and one silver in Athens, starts her schedule with the women's 200m individual medley SM6 at 0307 BST with the final at 1146 BST.

Britain's Nyree Lewis goes in Narita's heat while team-mates Natalie Jones and Britain's youngest Paralympian in Beijing, 13-year-old Eleanor Simmonds, go in the following heat.

South Africa's Natalie du Toit, fresh from competing in the women's Open Water swim at the Olympics, goes in the women's 100m butterfly at 0351 BST.

Di Coates, competing at her seventh Games, is in the R2 10m air rifle stand-SH1 qualifier at 0200 BST with the top eight going into the final at 0500 BST.

The equestrian team test gets starts at 0030 BST when Britain defend the title they have won at every Games since Atlanta in 1996 when the equestrian events were first introduced.

The team is made up of Sophie Christiansen, Anne Dunham, Simon Laurens and Lee Pearson.

Britain's women's wheelchair basketball team faces a tough opener against Athens silver medallists Australia at 0300 BST in the USTB Gymnasium, while the men's team face hosts China at 1130 BST in the National Indoor Arena.

Table tennis and Boccia also start their programmes on an opening day that will see 27 gold medals won.
