Britain's Peter Norfolk fought hard before being defeated in the quad singles final at the Japan Open wheelchair tennis event.
The world number two and Paralympic champion lost 4-6 6-4 4-6 to US holder and world number one David Wagner.
The Briton saved four match points before succumbing in the second Super Series final of the year - the equivalent of Grand Slams.
Norfolk and his partner Jamie Burdekin also lost out in the doubles final.
The pair, who were fourth seeds in the competition, lost 1-6 3-6 to Wagner and his compatriot Bryan Barten.
The final rankings for qualification to this September's Beijing Paralympics will be published on Monday.
