Strange's exploits on court earned her one of the top awards
|
Great Britain wheelchair basketball stars Simon Munn and Clare Strange have claimed the two top awards at the Annual Wheelpower sports awards.
Munn won outstanding male achievement for his performance as part of GB's silver medal winning men's team at the European Basketball Championships which earned him a place in the all star team for the tournament and the award for best four point player.
Strange won best 1.5-point player and was also named in the all-star team as Great Britain's women's team claimed bronze at the same tournament and that was enough to earn her the outstanding female achievement prize.
Other big winners on the night were Great Britain's European Championship winning wheelchair rugby team who picked up team of the year in a team sport after defending their European crown for a third successive title.
Rachel Morris won the best newcomer award after she won double gold at the UCI World Cycling Championships in Bordeaux in August.
Two lifetime achievement awards were handed out on the night to Jayant Mistry and Colin Price who have both recently retired from international competition.
Mistry was one of Britain's greatest ever wheelchair tennis players, while Price was a long serving and very successful member of the GB wheelchair basketball team.
