Norfolk is back to full fitness after a shoulder problem
|
Britain's Peter Norfolk saw his recent winning run come to an end with a straight-sets loss in the US Open quad singles final in San Diego.
Norfolk, the defending champion and second seed, lost 7-6 7-5 to world number one David Wagner.
Norfolk had beaten Wagner in the wheelchair tournament at the US Open at Flushing Meadows and the Atlanta Wheelchair Tennis Masters.
It was Norfolk's first ever defeat in a Super Series final.
The players matched each other throughout the first set with a succession of impressive winners but Wagner won the vital points in the tie-break to edge ahead.
Another close second set saw Norfolk and Wagner exchange games until the American broke in the 11th game of the set and went on to earn two match points on his next service game.
Norfolk returned only three weeks ago from four months out with a shoulder injury.
