GB's adaptive rowers start well
Britain's disabled rowers made a good start in the heats on the first day of adaptive races at the World Rowing Championships at Dorney Lake, Eton.

Helene Raynsford comfortably won the first heat of the women's arms only single scull event.

GB's defending legs, arms and trunk mixed coxed four world champions qualified for Sunday's final.

And Britain's mixed arms and trunk double scull finished second in their heat behind defending champions USA.

Karen Cromie, who is part of the GB wheelchair basketball squad, and former swimmer James Roberts should qualify for Sunday's final via the repecharge.

Meanwhile, Raynsford, who is also part of the GB wheelchair basketball squad, will now be among the favourites to be the first world champion in this class.

She said: "I had a good start, but the Canadian girl [Shira Golden] was right behind me all the way. I kept to the race plan and now I'm going to make sure everything's OK on Sunday."

Britain have won the last two titles in the legs, arms and trunk mixed coxed four and stroke Alan Crowther will be aiming for his third world championship gold medal on Sunday, along with Naomi Riches.

"We've been practising at a high rate and everything went according to plan out there," said Crowther.
