British skiers Russell Docker, Sean Rose and Liz Miller have been selected as the first members of the GB squad for the 2006 Winter Paralympics.

GB will also take a wheelchair curling team to Turin, but the individual team members are still to be selected.

Dorset's Docker, 38, was one of only two GB athletes who competed at the Salt Lake City Games in 2002.

Both Rose, from Northampton, and Miller, from Hampshire, will be making their Winter Paralympic debuts.

The three athletes are members of the British Adaptive Ski Team, which is run by national ski charity Disability Snowsport UK.

Docker, who competes in sitting skiing events, recently won gold in the Super-G event at the European Cup Final in Austria and believes he has a good chance of a medal next year.

"It's great news to be selected to represent my country again. It was my goal for the season to make sure I qualified and I'm really looking forward to it," he said.

"My goal for Salt Lake City was to get there, but my skiing has improved 10-fold since then, so I'm going to Torino with the intention of getting a medal."

Rose, who broke his back in a skiing accident in 2000, also competes in the sit-ski events while Miller, who lost her left leg in an accident in 1997, is a standing skier who uses a prosthetic leg made specially for skiing.

British Paralympic Association chief executive Phil Lane is also hopeful that Team GB can gain success in Italy. "We're delighted to have three skiers who have qualified for the next Paralympic Winter Games. Our skiers had a good season this year, which augurs well for the future," he said.
