Sauvage set for Athens

One of Australia's leading Paralympians Louise Sauvage has confirmed she will compete in the Athens Games.

The 30-year-old, who will be competing in her fourth consecutive Paralympics, is aiming to win an unprecedented 10th gold medal.

She will also be attempting to win her third straight Olympic gold medal in the 800m demonstration event.

Sauvage's decision to compete in Athens has ended a period of speculation about her racing future.

"After the 2003 World Championships retirement definitely entered my mind," she admitted.

"But the fact that I have still been enjoying my training and have produced some very competitive times has motivated me to go on.

"The Paralympics and Olympics are the highlight of every athlete's career, and I feel that they would be a great way for me to end my international career after 14 years of competition."

Although Sauvage is in a different Paralympic category to Great Britain's Tanni Grey-Thompson, the pair have competed against each other in the past, including at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
