Phil Taylor continued his record-breaking year with victory in the European Championships in Holland.

Taylor, 49, defeated Steve Beaton 11-3 in Sunday's final to collect the £50,000 winners cheque.

The world number one missed a dart at double 12 to seal the tournament with a perfect nine-dart leg.

"I'm delighted with that win. It was really hard work," said Taylor, who had earlier defeated Jelle Klaasen in the semi-finals by the same score.

Taylor was in sensational form throughout the four-day tournament in Hoofddorp.

He came through his opening round match against Dutch youngster Toon Greebe 6-2, before whitewashing Robert Thornton 9-0 in the second round.

A quarter-final victory over Scotland's Gary Anderson followed, before Taylor saw off another Dutchman, former Lakeside world champion Klaasen, in the last four.

Taylor's next assignment is the Grand Slam of Darts, which begins in Wolverhampton on 14 November.

He has won the tournament on the previous two occasions that it has been held.

Beaton has also qualified for the event, courtesy of his appearance in the final in Hoofddorp.
