Stoke darts player Phil Taylor has said he is in the form of his life ahead of the World Championships, which begin at London's Alexandra Palace on Friday.

The 48-year-old is a 13-time world champion, but was knocked out in the quarter-finals last year.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm really looking forward to this one, my form is as good as it's ever been."

The world number one will meet qualifier Steve Grubb in the first round on Saturday.

"I know Steve, but I've never played him," said Taylor.

"But I won't treat him any differently to anyone else. I know he's a good player because he's managed to qualify."

Taylor was knocked out of last year's tournament by Wayne Mardle and said he would like the opportunity to beat him this time around.

"I'd love to play Wayne and if we both do well we're scheduled to meet in the quarter-finals," he said.
