T-Mobile are arguably the strongest they have ever been in their history.

As always their sprint ambitions are in the hands of Erik Zabel, who may well be too old to push the likes of Alessandro Petacchi and Baden Cooke.

But for the overall classification, they have a plethora of riders lining up to hassle Lance Armstrong and his bid for a sixth Tour de France victory.

The leading contender is Jan Ullrich, who has switched allegiance after one season with Team Bianchi.

He will miss the support of Alexandre Vinokourov, who finished third last year but misses this year's Tour with torn ligaments in his right shoulder.

In his absence, greater responsibility will fall on their impressive array of domestiques.

When it comes to domestiques, their list of riders are as impressive as ever - former contenders Santiago Botero and Paolo Savoldelli among their ranks as well as Australia's Cadel Evans.

Savoldelli should be an impressive sidekick, with a Giro d'Italia win under his belt.

T-Mobile, formerly Team Telekom, have grown restless by their lack of success in recent seasons in France.

They took the yellow jersey two years in a row courtesy of first Bjarne Riis (1996) and Ullrich the second year.

But they have since had to make do with second best behind Armstrong and the US Postal train.
