Robbie McEwen
DOB: 24/6/1972
Nationality: Australian
Best Tour: Green jersey - 2002
Robbie McEwen has revenge on his mind when it comes to the sprints at this year's Tour de France

A year ago, the Australian was edged out of the green jersey - the prize for the race's leading sprinter - by countryman Baden Cooke's shoulder.

He launched an appeal - accusing Cooke of illegal tactics in the sprint - which in the end proved unsuccessful.

But his early retirement from the Giro d'Italia has shown his desire to preserve himself for Le Tour.

During the Giro he was made to play second fiddle for much of it, winning stage five but otherwise generally finishing a wheel behind Italian sprint sensation Alessandro Petacchi.

Other than that stage win, there have been few stunning race victories by the fiery McEwen as he puts his all into July's event.

He impressed in the Australian sunshine to eventually finish second overall in the Tour Down Under.

McEwen is determined to win back the green jersey he seized in the 2002 race.

He first made his name as a BMX rider before making his way among the sport's elite.

Prior to that, his highlight came with the final stage victory on the Champs Elysees in the 1999 Tour de France, the most sought-after win of the race for the fast finishers.

Should he be able to maintain his consistency, he should battle it out again for green with countrymen Cooke and Stuart O'Grady, Germany's Erik Zabel and Petacchi.
