Belgian racer Tom Boonen had been the king of the sprints in the early part of the race before bowing out after a crash
Alexander Vinokourov failed to live up to expectations in the overall standings but still celebrated two stage wins
Speedstar Thor Hushovd proved to be Mr Consistent in the sprints and came away with the green jersey
Mickael Rasmussen won the king of the mountains jersey thanks, in part, to a superb victory on stage 10
But the main talking point was the battle for the overall race lead between Lance Armstrong and Ivan Basso
Armstrong, though, looked the most determined rider in the entire peloton and repeatedly dug deep to hold off rivals
The Texan enjoyed a more relaxed final day in the saddle - posing for the cameras as he celebrated a seventh Tour win
