Great Britain's Lizzie Armitstead has been ruled out of the track cycling World Championships later this month after suffering a side strain. The 22-year-old, who was due to ride in the six-event omnium in the Netherlands has been replaced by Laura Trott. A statement from British Cycling explained that, although Armitstead was responding to treatment, she would not recover in time for the championships. Armitstead picked up omnium silver in the at last year's championships. The Otley-born rider has suffered an interrupted season, having been admitted to hospital with a gall bladder infection earlier this year. Teenager Trott is one of three members of the Great Britain squad who could make their senior World Championships debuts in the Apeldoorn. Fellow 18-year-old Sam Harrison and Dani King, 20, will also be hoping to appear at this level for the first time.
