Britain's Sharon Laws wins Tour de Ardeche stage

Laws broke her collarbone earlier in the year

Briton Sharon Laws won her first major career race by sprinting to victory in stage one of the Tour de Ardeche.

Laws beat Australian Vicky Whitelaw to take the honours on the 112.4km stage from Le Pouzin to Beauchastel.

Her Cervelo Test team colleague Lizzie Armitstead won the bunch sprint to take third place.

"My legs where good today. I felt that I was stronger than Vicki. I will try to keep leader jersey as long as possible on my shoulders," she said.

"I have had some bad luck this year. I broke my collarbone in the Giro and didn't race for a long time, so this is very gratifying."
