Big climbs make mountain bike challenge tough

One of the toughest Isle of Man mountain bike challenges gets underway in Ramsey on Sunday 1 August.

The Appleby Sportive is a 100 kilometre course around the Island, including over 1,500 metres of ascent.

Cyclists will carry an electronic 'dibber' to provide individual timings for each section of the event.

Organiser, Richard Fletcher said: "Competitive cyclists should complete the course in around 3 to 4 hours and recreational riders between 4 and 5.

The entry fee is £12.00 per cyclist which includes basic insurance and refreshments.
