Switzerland's Nino Schurter won the men's 43k race when he outsprinted Olympic Champion Julien Absalon in a finish just as close as last year's World Championships. Burry Stander of South Africa took third.

Current world champion Irina Kalentieva, won the women's five-lap race in a time of one hour 54min 57s, beating American Willow Koerber by 11 seconds.

The Dalby Forest event was the first of six rounds that make up the UCI Cross Country Mountain Bike World Cup series, with riders gaining points each round depending on their placing.
