Manx cyclist Jonny Bellis is in a "stable" condition in an Italian hospital following a crash on his motor scooter on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who is being treated in Florence's CTO Hospital, had been in a critical condition.

Bellis was on the shortlist for the World Championships team to be named on Monday and was involved in the accident near the GB training base in Quarrata.

He represented Great Britain in last year's Olympic Games in Beijing.

British Cycling performance director Dave Brailsford said: "All our focus and attention right now is on Jonny and his family and ensuring that they are looked after and given the best possible care at this time."
