World and Olympic road race champion Nicole Cooke won stage two of the women's Giro del Trentino to take the overall race victory.

Cooke finished ahead of Australia's Carla Ryan and Russia's Svetlana Bubnenkova in the 106km stage.

It was Britain's second women's road success in two days after Emma Pooley won the individual time-trial at the Grande Boucle in France on Thursday.

Cooke, 26, from Wick, Wales, won the Giro del Trentino title by 16 seconds.

The first stage was won by Germany's Regina Schleicher, with Cooke second.
