Ivanov seals Amstel one-day win

Sergei Ivanov won the Amstel Gold Race one-day classic in the Netherlands, finishing ahead of Karsten Kroon.

Third behind the Russian winner in the prestigious 257km event was another Dutch rider, Robert Gesink.

Last year's winner Damiano Cunego of Italy was fifth, while 2006 champion Frank Schleck suffered a serious crash.

Luxembourg's Schleck and Australian Matthew Lloyd fell with 70km to go and were both fitted with surgical collars before being taken to hospital.

Ivanov, 34, surpassed his previous best result in the race from Maastricht to Valkenburg, having been runner-up in 2002.
