Mark Cavendish has further enhanced his growing reputation as the world's top sprinter after winning the green jersey at the Tour of California.

The 23-year-old Manx star recorded two stage victories during the eight-stage event and did enough elsewhere to take the prize for best sprinter.

The Columbia Highroad rider finished 14 points clear of Vincenzo Nibali.

Cavendish was 64th overall and eighth in the young rider classification after coming 50th on Sunday's final stage.

American rider Levi Leipheimer won the overall title for a third consecutive year with cycling legend Lance Armstrong in seventh place.
