Generation 2012: Joanna Rowsell
Jo Rowsell

Joanna Rowsell, 19, from Sutton

Several of her team-mates over the last year went on to star in Beijing but Rowsell will have to wait another four years for her shot at Olympic gold, in her home town.

Rebecca Romero and Wendy Houvenaghel, who joined Rowsell to win the women's team pursuit at the 2008 track world championships, completed a GB one-two in the individual event in Beijing, as team pursuit is not an Olympic event.

Rowsell, 19, who suffers from alopecia, has also been on the Halfords Bikehut road team, led by Olympic road race gold medallist Nicole Cooke.

She competes in Manchester with the Plowman Craven trade team, in the individual pursuit and - alongside Lizzie Armitstead and Katie Colclough - in the team pursuit.
