Bowditch breaks Guernsey record

Ann Bowditch
Bowditch broke the hour mark by a single second

Guernsey's Ann Bowditch has become the first island woman to break the hour mark in a local 25-mile time trial.

The cyclist's time of 59 minutes 59 seconds meant she dipped under the mark by a single second.

Guernsey courses are considered slower than those in the UK but, at 16 miles, Bowditch was under the time needed to break the hour mark.

She then had a final push in the last mile to edge home inside the record and claim a first for Guernsey cycling.
