Saunier Duval's Riccardo Ricco won the gruelling 15th stage of the Tour of Italy from team-mate Leonardo Piepoli.
Ricco moved up to sixth in the overall standings
The pair attacked on the first of four big climbs and maintained their lead to the finish in Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
Danilo di Luca retained the race leader's pink jersey after coming home sixth, two minutes, 53 seconds behind Ricco, who moved up to sixth overall.
Astana's Eddy Mazzoleni moved up to second in the standings, 1:51 behind Di Luca, after finishing fifth.
Two-time Giro winner Gilberto Simoni was expected to mount a challenge to Di Luca on the climbs but actually lost a further 27 seconds to the race leader.
