New Zealand's Sarah Ulmer
Ulmer broke the record in a heat for Friday's final
New Zealand's Sarah Ulmer set a new world record in the women's 3000m individual pursuit at the World Track Cycling Championships on Thursday.

Ulmer completed the distance in three minutes 30.604 seconds to defeat Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel's previous mark by 0.212secs.

"I am stoked, absolutely stoked. My boyfriend was giving me the call so I knew I had a chance," said Ulmer.

"I just want to catch my breath. I don't want to get carried away yet."

Clara Sanchez of France won the women's keirin title with Elisa Frisoni of Italy in second and American Jennie Reed getting the bronze.
