Bowls

Scots pair Stewart Anderson and David Gourlay will meet in the semi-finals of the Scottish Open in Perth.

Gourlay overcame reigning world champion Greg Harlow 11-4 1-9 2-1, to set up a semi with Anderson who beat 13th seed Mark Royal 8-8 6-5.

In the other quarter-finals, qualifier Rob Paxton from Devon beat 10th seed Andy Thomson 7-4 3-8 2-1.

Meanwhile, Fakenham's Mervyn King beat Canadian qualifier Jamie MacGowan, from Vancouver, 4-8 7-3 2-1.

World champion Paul Foster had earlier crashed out in straight sets, 13-8 8-4, to ninth seed King in the second round.

Gourlay had to work hard to reach the quarter-finals with a 10-6 6-6 win against Nottingham's Simon Skelton.

Lincoln's Billy Jackson missed out on a place in the last eight thanks to MacGowan after the ninth seed and former world indoor singles champion lost the first set 7-4 but went on to win the second 10-3.

In the tie-break Jackson took the jack into the ditch to force a replay of the final end but MacGowan won 2-1.

Jackson said: "In the first tie-break end, I didn't get within four feet of the jack. I just wasn't good enough."

MacGowan, who was playing in his maiden World Tour event, had beaten another seed in the opening round with victory over Jason Greenslade of Wales.
