Australian ninth seed Kelvin Kerkow was handed an 11-3 6-10 2-1 defeat by Welsh qualifier Richard Morgan in the first round of the International Open.
Kerkow, 37, a singles gold medallist in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, was well off the pace in the first set.
He rallied in the second to force a tie-break, but Cardiff's Morgan sealed victory with an inch-perfect delivery.
World number one and defending champion Greg Harlow was pushed hard as he beat Hong Kong's Robin Chok 12-1 7-8 2-1.
