Reading Rockets director of coaching Matt Johnson believes the appointment of Samit Nuruzade as head coach will take the EBL Division One club forward.
Nuruzade has had spells coaching Greater Manchester Youth Basketball Club and the England Under-16s.
Johnson told BBC Berkshire: "He has the tools in place to make this an exciting new era for us.
"He is one of the brightest brains around and we're really over the moon to secure him."
Johnson admits Reading Rockets have been scouting Nuruzade ever since the two worked together at international level.
"We worked together as assistant coaches on the England Under-16 team and his understanding of European basketball was so impressive that this was an opportunity too good to miss," he explained.
"So we've been looking at him for two or three years and he has genuinely been the person we've been after."
Nuruzade's appointment has already generated high levels of excitement around the club according to Johnson.
"The phones are ringing constantly from players wanting to come play for us because they know his reputation."
Johnson also believes Nuruzade's role at the club will not be limited to the first team.
"With his excellent understanding and developing of young players, he's going to work closely with the programme we're developing at Reading University.
"He'll take control of all youth technical programming and will help get young English kids from Reading into the right levels they need to be at to play at the top level which is a healthy sign for Reading sport in general."
