NBA players Ben Gordon, Luol Deng and Pops Mensah-Bonsu have been named in Great Britain's training squad for September's European Championships.

Chicago Bulls star Gordon has yet to confirm he will play as he is yet to sign a pro contract for next year.

And Deng is recovering from a stress fracture, which has ended his season.

But Mensah-Bonsu told BBC Radio 5 Live: "To have three players representing Great Britain in the NBA just shows us how far British basketball has come."

He added: "I know for sure this summer we will open a few eyes and raise a few eyebrows.

"Having Ben Gordon, Luol, myself and a bunch of other players who have played in mainland Europe we have and one of the better teams in the European Championships."

I definitely feel like I'm going to be in the NBA - it's just a matter of where

Coach Chris Finch is excited at the arrival in the squad of Tafari Toney, the 22-year-old Newcastle Eagles player.

Australian-born Daryl Corletto, a British passport-holder and highly-rated guard, also makes his first appearance in the GB squad.

And Scotland's Rob Archibald returns after missing the EuroBasket qualifying tournament last year, at the request of his club Malaga, to recover fully from injury.

Great Britain host a tournament featuring Israel, Poland and Turkey at London's O2 Arena on 14-16 August as a warm-up for the EuroBasket tournament, which begins in Poland on 7 September.

Londoner Mensah-Bonsu is confident he will have signed a new NBA contract in time to confirm his participation.

606: DEBATE

He started last season with Badalona in Spain before moving into the NBA development league, being picked up by the San Antonio Spurs then ending the season with the Toronto Raptors.

"I have a few other options. I definitely feel like I'm going to be in the NBA - it's just a matter of where. I'm hoping it's going to be the Toronto Raptors," he added.
