Bears season off to flying start

Basketball

South Birmingham Bears started the new season in impressive fashion with back-to-back wins on the opening weekend.

In game one, the Bears beat Guildford Heat 82-47, Gemma Salmon scoring 23 points, while player of the match Crystal Sterling contributed 22.

Salmon's excellent form continued a day later against Guernsey in Southampton as she recorded a 20-point haul.

Bears are next in action on Saturday at home to UWIC Archers in the first round of the National Cup on Saturday.

Tip-off is at 1230 BST at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School.
