Archibald joy at Spanish return

Scottish star Robert Archibald admits he is glad to be back in Spain after a nine-month stint in Ukraine.

The former Memphis Grizzlies forward has signed a two-year deal with ACB outfit Malaga.

Despite being named Most Valuable Player of the Ukrainian league last season, he rejected a return.

"My experience there was not at all positive in respect to the level of the game so that's why I chose to come back here," said the Great Britain cap.

"One of the most important parts of my decision to come here was the opportunity to compete for titles."

Malaga, who will take part in the Euroleague this season, are Archibald's third Spanish club after prior spells with Valencia and Joventut Badalona.

"I was very upset to have to miss the GB qualification games"

However a bout of tendonitis means the 28-year-old is sitting out GB's EuroBasket qualifiers that begin on Wednesday against Israel.

And he is hoping the side can earn a berth in Poland 2009 without him.

He said: "I was very upset to have to miss the GB qualification games but the extra month of rehab and strength work were much needed and will hopefully allow me to avoid problems with my knee during the season.

"I'm looking forward to rejoining the team next summer, and hopefully for EuroBasket which would be another great step for the programme."
