Johnson is the first Mavericks coach to win the Red Auerbach Trophy

Avery Johnson has been named as NBA coach of the year after leading Dallas to a 60-win season in his first full campaign in charge of the Mavericks.
That matched the team record for wins set three years ago when Johnson played for the team. He became an assistant coach during the 2003 play-offs.
Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki, who played with Johnson, said: "Avery's done a great job, preparing us for every game.
"He's really turned the franchise around and deserves a lot of credit."
After retiring as a player in 2004, Johnson became then-coach Don Nelson's right-hand man. He replaced him in the hot seat in March 2005.
Johnson won a NBA title with San Antonio in 1999, hitting the series-clinching shot.
