After 100 years of hurt, Chicago Cubs thought it was "their year" - only to fall short once again.
Having not won a World Series since 1908 - or even reached one since 1945 - the Cubs got off to a flier and won the National League Central title with a 97-64 win-loss record, the best in the major leagues.

Whether one believes the "Billy Goat curse" that was bestowed on the Cubs in 1945, and whether or not Cubs fan Steve Bartman cost his club a World Series place in 2003 when he tried to catch a ball from the stands in 2003 - the wait goes on
REPORT (Oct 2005): Baseball's curses
