Boston set up Tampa title series

Boston's Bay slides in for his match-winning run

Boston beat Anaheim 3-2 to clinch a 3-1 division series win and a place in the American League Championship series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Angels were trying to beat Boston for the second consecutive game after the Red Sox had won the teams' previous 11 meetings.

But Jason Bay's match-winning run put the Red Sox through.

Two BJ Upton home runs earned the Rays a 6-2 win over the Chicago White Sox, which was enough for a 3-1 series win.

It marks a historic breakthrough for the Florida team, who had never previously reached a post-season campaign in their 11-year history.

The winners of the semi-final between the Rays and the Red Sox will face Philadelphia or Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

The Phillies will contest their first National League Championship series in 15 years after seeing off Milwaukee.

They beat the Brewers 6-2 in game four to win the series 3-1 and set up a best-of-seven clash against the Dodgers.
