Girardi was also a target for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Joe Girardi, bench coach for the New York Yankees for just one season, is the new manager of the Florida Marlins.
The 40-year-old has agreed a three-year deal to succeed Jack McKeon, who took the Marlins to an unlikely World Series victory over the Yankees in 2003.
McKeon, 75, resigned after the team went 83-79 this season, accepting a position as a special adviser.
Girardi was a catcher on three World Series-winning teams with the Yankees in 1996, 1998 and 1999.
