England beaten by Denmark in European Team Championship

Jenny Wallwork and Gabby White
Wallwork and White lost to Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Juhl

England have missed out on a place in the European Team Championship final after losing to Denmark in Amsterdam.

Sarah Walker lost out in the opening match before Rajiv Ouseph gave England hope by beating Jan O Jorgensen.

Jenny Wallwork and Gabby White lost their women's doubles tie and Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis let an early lead slip in the men's.

The unassailable 3-1 lead meant the mixed-doubles match was scrapped.

Denmark, who beat England in the final two years ago, will face Germany on Sunday.

In the opening match, Walker was well beaten by Tine Baun, losing 21-8 21-7.

Ouseph put in an impressive display to gave England a fighting chance by defeating Jorgensen 13-21 21-11 21-12.

It was up to the doubles pairings to steer England into the final but Wallwork and White were unconvincing as Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Juhl won 21-14 21-16 and restored Denmark's lead.

Adcock and Ellis looked likely to level the tie as they lead 14-8 in their deciding game against Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe.

But the Danish pair, ranked number one in the world, showed true class to produce an unstoppable six-point streak to reach 14-14 before pulling away to take the game and seal a tight 27-29 21-19 21-17 win.
