Haley helped turn the Cardinals into a potent attacking force
Todd Haley, the offensive co-ordinator of Super Bowl runners-up Arizona, is the new head coach of Kansas City.
He replaces Herm Edwards, whose Chiefs team - the youngest in the NFL - had a win-loss record of 2-14 last season.
Haley, 41, previously worked under Kansas City's new general manager Scott Pioli at the New York Jets.
"We have a shared vision of what it takes to build a successful franchise in the NFL," said Pioli. "Todd will bring passion, dedication and energy."
Haley said: "I am looking forward to working with Scott to re-establish the winning tradition that the fans in Kansas City deserve."
Haley moulded an offence that carried the Cardinals to an improbable NFC West title and then to within minutes of a Super Bowl victory over Pittsburgh.
He started calling plays late in the 2007 season, and Arizona's offence really took off last year.
Veteran quarterback Kurt Warner set a franchise record with 427 points, finished third in scoring in the NFL and second in passing yards.
