NFL highlights - Dolphins v Jets

Eric Mangini of the New York Jets was one of three NFL head coaches fired the day after the regular season ended.

Rod Marinelli of the struggling Detroit Lions and Romeo Crennel of the Cleveland Browns also lost their jobs.

The Lions were the first NFL team to lose all 16 games in a season, while the Jets missed out on the play-offs for a second successive year.

The Jets lost four of their final five games, while the Browns slipped to six straight losses in the season run-in.

None of the teams have named replacements for their sacked coaches.

Before the Lions' woeful campaign, the NFL record for losses in a season had been held by the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who went 0-14 in their inaugural season.

The Jets, despite acquiring future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre during an offseason spending spree, lost their play-off chance after losing 24-17 at home to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
